New Orleans Zoo
The New Orleans Zoo is ranked among the country's best zoos and is an integral part of the Audubon Nature Institute. The zoo is easily accessed from the St. Charles Streetcar Line just outside Maison St. Charles. With innovative natural habitat exhibits and an animal collection ranging from unique white alligators to extraordinary white tigers, Audubon Zoo has become one of the Gulf South's favorite family gathering spots. Top exhibits at the zoo include the World of Primates, a Red River Hog exhibit, a sea lion area and an environment dedicated to Louisiana swamp wildlife. There are also a bevy of great attractions like the Gottesman Family Endangered Species Carousel, Zoofari Cafe and a rock-climbing wall.
Audubon Park
Those visiting the New Orleans Zoo are within steps of Audubon Park. The nature-friendly attraction is open to the public and is a favorite spot for recreation, picnics or enjoying a beautiful day. Guests can test their problem-solving skills in the Audubon Labyrinth, a scenic, spacious and popular area for weddings. Equine-friendly visitors may want to saddle up at Cascade Stables for a two-mile, 45-minute guided trail ride around the circumference of Audubon Park. Cascade's well-tended horses suit all skill levels, even children as young as seven. Audubon Park also features Audubon Golf Club, a premier public golf course positioned just across from Tulane University. The Golf Clubhouse is also open to the public and presents a great spot for breakfast, lunch and Sunday brunch.
